This summer, our Scouts headed off to Beaudesert Scout Activity Centre in the heart of Cannock Chase for a weekend camp packed with fun, learning, and a healthy dose of sunshine—thanks to a scorching UK heatwave!
This wasn’t your average high-energy expedition. The aim was to keep things relaxed but fun-filled—and the Scouts did just that. With the forest around them and the sun shining above, they took part in an amazing mix of activities including:
🌳 Monkey Trees
⛓️ Abseiling
📦 Crate Stacking
🎯 Axe Throwing
When they weren’t scaling trees or hurling axes (safely, of course!), the Scouts made the most of their free time with some valuable skill-building sessions. These included:
🪓 Axe and saw
🪵 Whittling basics
🌿 Slacklining balance practice
Beyond the activities, the camp also focused on developing key life skills. Scouts took the lead in washing up, setting up camp, and packing it all down, learning the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and pitching in to get the job done.
But perhaps the most memorable part of the weekend came on Saturday evening, when things took a wild turn…
What started as a fun take on the classic Celebrity Cyclone quickly spiraled into a full-blown water fight with our two youngest section leaders becoming prime targets! Laughter echoed through the trees as the Scouts gleefully soaked their leaders (who, to their credit, took it all in stride). Not wanting to miss out on the action, the soaked leaders took control of the slip ‘n’ slide, showing off their own moves and keeping the fun going into the evening.
This camp perfectly captured what Scouting is all about: adventure, learning, laughter, and teamwork. Huge thanks to the leaders who made it happen and an even bigger shoutout to our Scouts for their enthusiasm, positive attitudes, and all-round brilliant behaviour throughout the weekend.
We’re already looking forward to the next adventure!
