This year’s district camp was nothing short of incredible. Over a long weekend, all sections from our group came together alongside others from across the district to take part in a camp packed with energy, fun, and shared adventure. Whether it was their first time or they were seasoned campers, every young person left with new memories, big smiles and lifetime memories!
Squirrels Make History!
This year marked a huge milestone — the very first time Squirrels joined our district camp! The 14th were one of two Squirrel Dreys to attend, and while they were only there for the day, they packed in plenty. After the open ceremony, they were treated to a fantastic circus skills display before diving into a full schedule of activities.
From face painting and bouncy castles to hook-a-duck and a mini ninja warrior course, there was never a dull moment. The Squirrels joined the rest of the group for a picnic lunch and shared evening meal — and then discovered a brand new camp tradition: washing up!
The day ended with a sing-along around the campfire circle with the other Squirrel section, capping off a fantastic first district camp experience.
Beavers Step Up
Our Beavers followed a similar programme to the Squirrels, but with the added excitement of staying overnight. Their adventure began with the open ceremony and circus skills display, before leaping into a day packed with activities like caving, climbing, laser tag, fire starting, jungle walks, archery, and backwoods cooking — plus all the classic fun like bouncy castles and face painting.
In the evening, the Beavers proudly marched in the parade alongside Cubs and Scouts, before settling around the campfire for songs, laughter, and entertainment from the District Gang Show cast. For many, it was their first ever night away — and they smashed it!
Cubs in Camp for the Long Haul
The Cubs were full of excitement from the moment they arrived on Friday night for their two-night adventure. After setting up camp, they launched straight into wide games with a hilarious twist: Cubs collected tokens to earn pieces of clothing, which their leaders then had to wear! By the end, the Cubs were in stitches as their leaders paraded around in the most ridiculous outfits imaginable.
The rest of the weekend was packed with action — they joined in with all the same activities as the Beavers, and their energy never flagged. On Saturday night, they marched proudly in the parade and joined the other sections at the district campfire.
Sunday morning brought the closing ceremony, where Cubs had a chance to reflect, share their favourite moments, and say goodbye before heading home tired but happy.
Scouts Go the Distance
Our Scouts embraced the full camp experience, staying for three nights and bringing great spirit from start to finish. On Friday, they joined the Cubs for the wide games and got a good laugh watching the leaders get dressed up thanks to the token challenge.
They took part in all the weekend’s activities with confidence and enthusiasm, and on Saturday night, they paraded and sang with the younger sections at the main district campfire.
But it was Sunday night that brought something special — with the Cubs and Beavers home, the Scouts were joined by our Explorers for a more relaxed campfire just for them. There were songs, s’mores, soft drinks, and plenty of great memories shared under the stars.
On Monday, Scouts showed fantastic teamwork and maturity as they helped take down the camp and pack everything away — a real credit to the group.
Explorers Round Out the Weekend
Our Explorers joined the fun on Sunday night, meeting up with the Scouts for the campfire sing-along and an evening of stories and laughter. Their presence brought a great sense of unity across the older sections, and it was brilliant to see the friendships and support in action.
Monday morning saw them helping with takedown and clear-up, working side by side with Scouts to leave the site in top shape.
A highlight moment for the whole group was recognising Coen, who was awarded his Young Leader Buckle during the weekend. Having completed all of his modules since becoming an Explorer at 14, Coen has shown exceptional commitment to Scouting and leadership. We’re thrilled to wish him well as he steps into his next role as Group Communications Lead, officially starting this month. Congratulations, Coen!
A Huge Thank You!
District Camp 2025 wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our amazing volunteers, leaders, and organisers — not to mention the incredible enthusiasm of every young person who took part. Whether it was your first camp or your tenth, we hope you had as much fun as we did.
Here’s to more adventures ahead!
